This chamberstick is tinged with a certain rustic darkness, as if once knocked over by a poltergeist in a haunted farmhouse. It is a simple but elegant piece, made by Jennings Brothers probably in the 1920s or 30s.

The Jennings Brothers Manufacturing Company was founded in 1892 as a producer of casket hardware. They later expanded into high quality art metal, candle holders, and other metalware. In the summer of 1941, a fire burst forth in their Connecticut manufacturing plant. Buckets of flammable lacquer went off like bombs, one after the other, in a devastating chain reaction that would destroy everything inside the building. By the time the company was up and running again, they had moved on to wartime production.

The chamberstick is about 5 1/4" tall, and the base has about a 3" diameter. It weighs 11 ounces.
