Antique bronze occult Greek sphinx chamberstick
Although the age of this chamberstick is uncertain, it is a finely crafted bronze antique. Practitioners of magic may attempt to use this piece to summon an ancient sphinx to watch over them and prevent their most hideous secrets from reaching the light of day.
The sphinx of ancient Greek mythology is a guardian of terrible strength who perches up on a rock alongside the path to Thebes. The fearsome sentinel confronts passers-by with a riddle. All those who fail to guess her riddle are hurled over a cliff or mercilessly devoured---and her riddle is nigh inscrutable to the mortal mind. Sphinxes are also known as keepers of profound mystical secrets, although perhaps these too are better left to higher minds.
The chamberstick is about 4" long, 4" tall, and weighs 11 1/2 ounces.
